(Minneapolis/St.Paul) Minneapolis Musical Theatre today announced that it has secured the rights to the Off-Broadway hit, Evil Dead: The Musical. Minneapolis Musical Theatre (MMT) will kick off its 2010-2011 season in fall 2010 with the area premiere of this humorous, cult-favorite show.
Evil Dead: The Musical combines the best elements of the classic horror films, Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness, and sets them to music to create a campy, high-energy theatrical experience that comes complete with a splatter zone.
“We are excited to be able to introduce this funny, over-the-top musical to Twin Cities audiences,” says Steven Meerdink, MMT artistic director and co-founder. “You don’t need to be a fan of horror movies or musicals to love this show. It is simply pure, zany fun and an unabashedly good time.”
Evil Dead: The Musical tells the story of five college students who go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, accidentally unleashing an evil force that turns them all into demons. Chainsaws, flying limbs, oozing blood and zombies who sing and dance are all part of the action during cheerfully outlandish songs such as “Evil Trees,” “It Won’t Let Us Leave,” and “Ode to an Accidental Stabbing.” “The next Rocky Horror Show.” – The New York Times
Evil Dead: The Musical first played in Toronto and Montreal before opening Off-Broadway in New York in 2006. It has since had successful runs in various U.S. and international cities. The creative team for music, lyrics and book includes George Reinblatt, Frank Cipolla, Melissa Morris and Christopher Bond.
